Seattle-based NGO Upaya Social Ventures has announced its investment in Ecoright, a unique sustainable fashion and ethical lifestyle brand based in Gujarat, India. Upaya leverages its philanthropic funding to provide dignified jobs for people living in extreme poverty. Since its inception in 2011, Upaya has invested in 41 companies and is reported to have created over 42,000 jobs in India.
Ecoright, a direct-to-consumer lifestyle brand, is set to scale its operations and expand its line of environmentally friendly bags and totes with this new investment. The company is a pioneer in India’s sustainable fashion industry, utilizing organic cotton, recycled plastic, and chemical-free dyes at affordable prices. Ecoright has delivered over 1.5 million products to sustainable consumers in 60 countries to date.
“At Ecoright, we’re working on making sustainability mainstream by creating great products that fit seamlessly into our consumers’ lives,” said Nikita and Udit, the founders of Ecoright. As a Fairtrade-certified company, Ecoright believes that eco-friendly products should not be a luxury but rather accessible to everyone.
Upaya is committed to supporting early-stage businesses that foster sustainable livelihoods for those living in extreme poverty. Notable organizations, including the Delta Fund, Laudes Foundation, and the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs in the USA back their efforts.
This partnership between Upaya Social Ventures and Ecoright represents a significant step towards promoting sustainability and ethical fashion for start-up green businesses, providing meaningful employment opportunities while delivering eco-friendly products to a global market.
