UNIFI Unveils Biodegradable REPREVE® with CiCLO® Technology to Combat Microplastic Pollution

UNIFI, a global leader in recycled and synthetic yarns, has launched REPREVE with CiCLO® technology—a biodegradable recycled polyester and nylon designed to address the growing issue of microplastic pollution.

Developed in collaboration with Intrinsic Advanced Materials, LLC, a joint venture between Parkdale Advanced Materials, Inc. and Intrinsic Textiles Group, LLC, this innovative fiber incorporates a patented additive at the molecular level. This allows synthetic yarns to mimic natural materials like wool, enabling them to biodegrade in environments such as soil and seawater without compromising performance, durability, or dyeability.

“Our collaboration with Intrinsic Advanced Materials addresses the worldwide issue of synthetic microfiber shedding by providing a globally available solution that mills, brands, and retailers can now integrate to reduce microplastic fiber pollution,” said Eddie Ingle, CEO of UNIFI.

REPREVE with CiCLO technology is compatible with all REPREVE-branded products, including REPREVE Takeback™ and REPREVE Our Ocean®. The technology is already being utilized by sustainable brands such as Bass Pro Shops, Billabong, Champion, Oakley, and Target.

UNIFI is showcasing this new offering at the Functional Fabric Fair, held April 14-16, 2025, at the Oregon Convention Center. REPREVE with CiCLO technology is featured at Booth 815, while CiCLO technology is presented at Booth 712.

This launch underscores UNIFI’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, providing scalable solutions for brands aiming to meet environmental goals and regulatory demands.
