UAE Minister Highlights Nation’s Ambitious Renewable Energy Goals at IRENA Assembly

During the 15th International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) Assembly held in Abu Dhabi, Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the UAE’s commitment [1]  accelerating the global energy transition.

In her address, Dr. Al Dahak highlighted the UAE’s ambitious targets, including doubling its clean and renewable energy capacity as part of its Net Zero by 2050 Strategy. She reiterated the goals of the UAE Consensus, established at COP28, which calls for tripling renewable energy capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.

“The world is watching, and the time for action is now,” Dr. Al Dahak declared, urging nations to strengthen their commitments, prioritize project flexibility, and incentivize private investment in clean energy. She emphasized the importance of global cooperation towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable energy future.

Additionally, Dr. Al Dahak showcased the UAE’s commitment to supporting developing nations through targeted investments, such as ALTÉRRA, the world’s largest private climate investment fund, and the Africa Green Investment Initiative. She also encouraged youth involvement in the renewable energy sector, highlighting their unique perspectives and leadership potential. 

Dr. Al Dahak emphasized the importance of creating inclusive strategies to achieve ambitious renewable energy targets, encouraging nations to foster environments conducive to private sector investment. The UAE continues to play a pivotal role in driving the global energy transition forward through proactive diplomacy, renewable energy investments, and strategic partnerships.
