United States Steel Corporation (U.S. Steel) is the first company to be awarded the ResponsibleSteel™ – status in the world, a significant milestone in the sustainability aspirations of the industry.
Big River Steel facility, situated in Osceola, Arkansas, located in the U.S. Steel Indiana Harbor Complex received such accreditation after complying with various Responsible Steel production criteria, ESG regulation, and practices. The company has now built on the 2022 ResponsibleSteel Site Certification as well as Site Certification, and now it is full steel certification. ResponsibleSteel is an international institution that provides site and steel certification through the General Benchmarking Structural Requirements, reliable where good practices are maintained along the steel supply chain. The certification shows the commitment of Big River and U.S Steel to fulfilling carbon welding goals.

The ResponsibleSteel International Production Standard incorporates over 500 criteria across 13 principles, requiring certified companies to meet strict ESG benchmarks. These include responsible sourcing of materials and demonstrated progress in decarbonizing the steel production process. U.S. Steel’s achievement of Progress Level 1 certification highlights its commitment to transparency and long-term sustainability, while positioning the company as a leader in the global steel industry’s green transition.
