Tragic death at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel Plant

Hazira, Surat in India witnessed a tragic accident on Tuesday, with a fire taking place at the steel plant, leading to the tragic death of four workers and one injured. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening at ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India’s facility, as per reports.

Anupam Singh Gehlot, the Surat Commissioner of police, reported that the incident occurred due to an unexpected spilling of burning coal, leading to igniting a section of the plant and taking the lives of four who were on a lift.

A company spokesperson stated that the accident was due to equipment failure at the Corex plant. “We are sorry to report an accident at the COREX plant due to an equipment failure at AMNS Hazira Operations,” they said. The mishap happened around 6:00 pm during a unit restart after a shutdown.

The company has activated all emergency protocols and cordoned off the affected area while collaborating with relevant authorities on-site and initiating an internal investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

“We are extending all support to the families of the affected personnel,” said the spokesperson.
