The Netherlands-based Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH) and Vietnam’s Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development Department have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance sustainability in Vietnam’s textile and footwear industry. This agreement formalizes a partnership between Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), IDH, and key industry associations to implement priority initiatives for sustainable growth.
Despite its significant contributions to the economy, Vietnam’s textile and footwear sector faces challenges such as resource inefficiency, environmental pollution, and rising greenhouse gas emissions. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, director of the sustainable development department, highlighted these pressures in a recent statement to local media.
The MoU aims to drive sustainable practices, boost eco-friendly product markets, and strengthen the competitiveness of local businesses. This initiative aligns with Vietnam’s global commitments to climate action and sustainable development.
By fostering collaboration and innovation, the partnership is expected to shape a greener, more resilient future for Vietnam’s textile and footwear industry, positioning it as a leader in sustainable manufacturing.
