SWE-S Launches Treadfine Productions, Promoting Sustainable Hosiery

SWE-S has launched Treadfine Productions, a new business committed to making high-quality, sustainably made hosiery, as a part of its efforts to steer the fashion sector toward a more sustainable future. The fashion industry is dealing with the environmental impact of rapid fashion, particularly the proliferation of “throwaway” hosiery made of synthetic fibers. Recognizing this urgent issue, Treadfine wants to provide a more durable and environmentally friendly solution.

Treadfine will deliver “more sustainable production for businesses at scale,” a much-needed purpose, especially given that the company claims 8 billion pairs of tights are sold annually, worn once, and then discarded. The company has also established its first label relationship with Swedish retailer MQ. Linn Frisinger, CEO of SWE-S, stated that “hosiery is the plastic straw of the fashion industry” in many aspects. This program addresses the growing customer desire for ethical and sustainable fashion options. Treadfine aspires to set a new standard for the hosiery business by focusing on durability and responsible manufacture, inspiring other brands to follow suit.

All new Treadfine partners will also be able to participate in Swedish Stockings’ Recycling Club, which strives to shut the loop on nylon waste by collecting old, discarded hosiery from any brand and recycling the fibres into new, long-lasting products such as furniture. SwedishStockings hopes to receive more hosiery than it produces this year, thanks to the program’s expansion to include more companies.
