ECO Fashion Week Australia (EFWA), in partnership with the Ellenbrook Youth Centre, has offered youth textile art classes since March to inspire and educate local youth about sustainable fashion. Led by EFWA founder and creative director Zuhal Kuvan-Mills, with volunteer assistant Hayley Beardman, the program teaches young participants to transform old garments into stylish, eco-conscious creations.
For six months, students have gained hands-on experience upcycling t-shirts and jeans while learning about the environmental impact of fashion and the importance of repurposing clothing to reduce waste. Under Ms. Kuvan-Mills’ guidance, the youth have created a collection of sustainable fashion pieces to be showcased on November 18 at EFWA’s Community Sustainable Fashion Showcase at the Ellenbrook Art Gallery.
This free event will highlight the talent of young designers aged 12 and up while promoting eco-friendly fashion. The textile art classes are fully sponsored by EFWA, aligning with its mission to engage diverse communities in the movement toward a sustainable future. EFWA’s outreach extends beyond youth programs, including initiatives in aged care, ensuring sustainability is accessible to all.
Through these initiatives, EFWA not only empowers the next generation of designers but also fosters a community dedicated to sustainable practices, paving the way for a brighter, eco-conscious future.
