The 2024 Shanghai Fashion Customisation Week, celebrated its 10th anniversary in May 2024, at the historical Bund 22 building. This year it was themed around sustainable fashion, highlighting the growing importance of eco-friendly practices in the fashion industry.
The 2024 Shanghai Fashion Customisation Week was held as part of the Shanghai Global New Products Debut Season. The week-long event featured a series of fashion and cultural activities, presented a visual feast of haute couture works including brand exhibitions, designer salons, and a citywide guide to fashion experiences.
WJX, a local luxury brand was the most anticipated showcases of the event. They are well known for their fusion of traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern design. They collaborated with Laomiao, a Chinese Jewellery brand, to create a unique wedding jewelry line, featuring gold jewellery with bird motifs which signifies prosperity and joy in the Chinese culture.
Vanessa Ye, founder of WJX, emphasized the brand’s commitment to using recycled materials and sustainable design techniques to promote environmental responsibility and preserve traditional Chinese craftsmanship. The collection incorporated hand-embroidered Suzhou silk and eco-conscious materials, showcasing the brand’s dedication to sustainability. The collection brings Chinese heritage techniques like hand-embroidered Suzhou silk with as eco-conscious materials.
The event also included “CityWalk Map,” a guide that encouraged consumers to visit over 20 local brand stores, studios, and salons around the city to experience personalized, high-end services. This unique 1initiative highlighted Shanghai’s growing position as an international fashion city and its commitment to promoting sustainable fashion.
Xu Xiaoliang, president of the Shanghai International Fashion Federation and co-CEO of Fosun International, said the past decade has seen the rise of both China’s high-end fashion industry and global recognition of its unique aesthetic values. He noted that the 15th edition of Shanghai Fashion Customisation Week offered a key platform for high-end brands and designers to debut their collections.
The annual event has become an important platform for China’s top fashion brands. China’s role in offering a platform for high-end brands and designers’ shift towards sustainable fashion and innovative designs has grown in the last five years. This has launched Chinese culture in global fashion and showcased Shanghai’s growing position as an international fashion city.
