Stella McCartney Launches Sustainable S-Wave Trainers

Stella McCartney has teamed up with material science company, ‘Balena’ to launch the S-Wave Sport trainers.

The trainers make their debut as part of the Autumn 2025 collection and use BioCir Flex, a novel polymer developed by Balena that is non-toxic, recyclable, compostable, and biobased. Notably, biodegradable materials such as oils, polysaccharides, and castor beans are used to make BioCir Flex. It is stained with natural cinnamon and is as flexible as rubber and as long-lasting as TPU.

BioCir® Flex fuses sustainability with circularity by integrating high molecular weight biodegradable polymers, naturally occurring bio-based ingredients, and other biodegradable modifiers. At the end of its life, it can be recycled or composted in an industrial compost facility, where it will biodegrade into renewable biomass with no waste or negative environmental impact.

“We are constantly exploring plant-based, regenerative alternatives that do not harm animals and heal Mother Earth. Harmonious to this philosophy, the innovators behind BioCir® Flex strive to revolutionize material science, developing innovative, accessible, and high-performance circular solutions across multiple industries.” stated Stella McCartney
