On a landmark occasion, EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) and ADNEC Group have signed a strategic partnership agreement to power the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi entirely with renewable and clean energy. This initiative marks the venue as the first and largest event space in the Middle East to operate on 100% clean energy, significantly contributing to the decarbonisation of the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) sector in the UAE.
The agreement was formalized at the ADNEC Centre, with the signing ceremony attended by key representatives from both organizations. Under this partnership, EWEC will supply all grid power to the ADNEC Centre from verified renewable sources, with verification conducted through Clean Energy Certificates (CECs) from the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE).
This collaboration aims to reduce carbon emissions associated with major events at the venue, setting a new benchmark for sustainable event management within the UAE. Othman Al Ali, CEO of EWEC, emphasized the commitment to accelerate renewable energy adoption in the UAE, while Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, CEO of ADNEC Group, highlighted the initiative’s alignment with national sustainable development goals.
EWEC plans to help organizations reduce their Scope 2 emissions by facilitating the uptake of Clean Energy Certificates, which serve as proof of ownership of clean energy consumption benefits and comply with international standards. This initiative supports the broader UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative, positioning both EWEC and ADNEC Group as leaders in sustainable practices in the events and tourism sectors.
