MENA Region on Track for Over $1 Trillion in Renewable Energy Investments by 2030

The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is projected to attract over $1 trillion [1]in renewable energy investments by 2030, according to Mark Thomas, Group CEO of Bapco Energies. This announcement was made during the third edition of the Sustainability Forum Middle East, held in Bahrain.

The forum, which drew over 400 regional and international decision-makers, business leaders, and sustainability experts, focused on aligning business models with climate action, scaling climate finance, advancing policy frameworks, fostering innovation, and accelerating technological progress. Thomas emphasized the region’s potential to lead in sustainable energy solutions while balancing the challenges of the energy transition.

The MENA region has already seen significant investments in renewable energy projects, including the Neom Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia, the Noor Midelt Solar Complex in Morocco, and the Benban Solar Park in Egypt. These projects are expected to drive economic growth, job creation, and cross-border collaborations.

Dr. Mohammed Bin Daina, Bahrain’s Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, highlighted the importance of cooperation between countries and industries to advance decarbonisation and energy sustainability in the region. He reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to supporting sustainable initiatives that strengthen national and international partnerships.

The forum also included workshops on sustainability strategies and climate-related financial disclosures, aimed at equipping participants with the tools and expertise needed to develop effective sustainability strategies and drive decarbonisation efforts.
