Masdar, TAQA, and Eni have signed an agreement to support the tripartite initiative [1] between the UAE, Italy, and Albania as a move towards enhancing cross-border renewable energy collaboration. The agreement was signed in the presence of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025.
The framework agreement, signed by Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar; Jasim Husain Thabet, CEO of TAQA Group; and Claudio Descalzi, CEO of Eni, aims to facilitate collaboration on progressing the tripartite strategic partnership. This partnership focuses on establishing a long-term power off-take agreement in Italy for renewable energy produced in Albania and transmitted through the cross-border interconnection between Albania and Italy.
Masdar, the UAE’s flagship renewable energy company, and TAQA Transmission were nominated as designated entities from the UAE. From Albania, Korporata Elektroenergjitike Shqiptare (KESH) and Operatori i Sistemit te Transmetimit Shqiptare (OST) were nominated as designated entities. Eni was identified as the preferred potential off-taker for the renewable energy.
The tripartite strategic partnership framework, signed at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025, is focused on multilateral cooperation between the UAE, Italy, and Albania on renewable energy and energy infrastructure. The initiative aims to enhance energy security, promote sustainable development, and accelerate the Mediterranean region’s energy transformation.
Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Chairman of Masdar, emphasized the importance of this agreement in strengthening cross-border renewable energy collaboration. He highlighted the potential to combine the UAE’s expertise in clean energy technology with Italy’s advanced energy infrastructure to unlock new pathways for progress and deliver actionable solutions to triple global renewable capacity.
Jasim Husain Thabet, Group CEO and Managing Director of TAQA, underscored the power of strategic collaboration in advancing sustainable energy solutions. He noted that strong energy infrastructure is the backbone of a successful clean energy transition and emphasized TAQA’s commitment to being a global leader in low-carbon power and water solutions.
This agreement marks a significant step in facilitating Albania’s renewable energy exports and reinforces the commitment of Masdar, TAQA, and Eni to advancing sustainable energy solutions and promoting socioeconomic progress through job creation and affordable energy.
