Maldives Delegates visit DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre as part of leadership programmer

A high-ranking delegation as part of the ‘Maldives Executive Leadership Programme’ [1] visited DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. The delegation included key officials such as ministers and deputy ministers from Maldives. They were introduced to DEWA’s initiatives in sustainability, clean energy, and renewable energy projects.

The programme was conducted by the UAE Government Experience Exchange Office, in collaboration with the Mohammed Bin Rashid School of Government, with a goal to enhance the government capabilities of the Maldives by leveraging the UAE’s experience and expertise.

During their visit, the delegation was given an overview of DEWA’s clean and renewable energy projects. One of the highlights of the visit was the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, touted as the largest single-site solar park globally based on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model. The solar park aims to achieve a capacity of over 5,000MW by 2030, with an investment of AED 50 billion, ultimately reducing over 6.5 million tonnes of carbon emissions annually.

The delegation also learned about other significant renewable energy projects by DEWA, such as the 250MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in Hatta, which is the first of its kind in the GCC region. Additionally, they were introduced to the EV Green Charger initiative launched by DEWA in 2014 to encourage green mobility. This initiative has led to the installation of over 700 charging stations across Dubai, with plans to reach 1,000 stations by the end of 2025.

The officials were further briefed on DEWA’s sustainable buildings and digital transformation projects. The Sustainability and Innovation Centre, which they visited, serves as a global hub for innovation in renewable and clean energy. The centre provides an immersive experience showcasing the latest in clean energy technologies, historical advancements in electricity, and DEWA’s flagship sustainability initiatives.

The Maldives delegation praised DEWA’s groundbreaking work in the renewable and clean energy sector and expressed their eagerness to adopt similar practices in their own operations.
