Lenzing Backs TreeToTextile

To accelerate the development of a sustainable and resource-efficient cellulose fibre for textile and nonwoven applications, Austria’s Lenzing Group has invested in the Swedish fibre firm, TreeToTextile. This new fibre aims to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of the industry while offering an alternative to cotton.
TreeToTextile’s mission is to develop and commercialise a renewable cellulose fibre that minimises chemical use, conserves water and energy, and offers superior fibre properties at a competitive cost. Founded in 2014 by Swedish entrepreneur Lars Stigsson, the company has attracted key investors, including H&M Group, Inter IKEA Group, Stora Enso, and LSCS Invest, all of whom have contributed to the fibre’s development.
Lenzing Group, with over 85 years of experience in scaling fibre technologies, has joined the partnership to help accelerate the next phase of development.
Dr Roxana Barbieru, CEO of TreeToTextile, said, “We are honoured to have the world’s leading producer of cellulose fibre join us on our journey to create resource-efficient, renewable fibres with minimal environmental impact. With Lenzing’s expertise, we will significantly speed up our market entry and move closer to our ambitious goals of becoming a key player in the textile industry.”
Lenzing Group CEO, Rohit Aggarwal, added, “We are excited about TreeToTextile’s award-winning technology and production process. It aligns perfectly with our strategy to reduce environmental impact and support the transition to a more sustainable future.” (1)
