In an effort to promote “climate-smart politics to reduce, repair, rewear, and recycle textiles,” the Congressional Slow Fashion Caucus has received assistance from the Leather and Hide Council of America (LHCA).
The LHCA, which promotes the US leather industry and represents the interests of 75 member companies along the leather supply chain, stated that it was supporting the cause because it believes leather plays an important part in sustainable fashion because it is a natural, durable, and repairable material. Leather represents the slow fashion philosophy.
Established by Congresswomen Sydney Kamlager-Dove (California), Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (Washington), and Chellie Pingree (Maine), the caucus is the first initiative in the United States which is focused on reducing the waste and pollution that the fast fashion industry causes. Prominent supporters of sustainable fashion like Patagonia, ThredUp, Remake, and The RealReal have already offered their support.
Kerry Brozyna, president of LHCA, said in a statement “Leather, is a true champion of the slow fashion movement, offering a remarkable triple win. For brands, it means a premium, timeless product that aligns seamlessly with their sustainability goals.
