With upcoming European Green Deal regulations aiming to cut net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, fiber suppliers, mills, brands, and retailers are working hard to meet these ambitious targets. At various tradeshows this fall, Hyosung will showcase how its extensive portfolio of 100% recycled, bio-based, and circular sustainable textile solutions can help its partners achieve their sustainability goals.
“We recognize that reaching the emissions reduction target requires a collective industry effort to develop effective solutions,” said Simon Whitmarsh-Knight, Hyosung Global Sustainability Director – Textiles. “That’s why Hyosung is actively partnering with leaders like Geno, utilizing its BDO technology, and more recently with Ambercycle to advance circular business models. Our collaborations with Textile Exchange have also provided invaluable insights that we can share with our customers to guide them on their sustainability journey.”
Hyosung will present these innovations at key industry events, including Performance Days Munich (October 23-24), The Textile Exchange Conference in California (October 28 – November 1), Functional Fabric Fair Portland (November 20-21), and Future Fabrics Expo NYC (November 19-20).
Hyosung continues to build a stronger, traceable sustainability narrative by expanding its regen BIO Spandex offerings, including the new regen BIO+ and regen BIO Max, made with an even higher percentage of renewable resources. In 2022, Hyosung became the first company to commercially introduce USDA and SGS-certified regen Bio-Based Spandex made with 30% renewable resources, which has since been embraced by leading brands such as Pangaia, Icebreaker, Silver Sea, and Van Harvey.
To meet the demand for sustainable apparel that offers both comfort and performance, Hyosung has incorporated multifunctional properties into its certified 100% recycled Spandex, Nylon, and Polyester fibers. These innovations deliver cooling, warming, and anti-odor benefits while maintaining a natural feel. Hyosung will also introduce its GRS-certified 100% post-consumer recycled regen Ocean Nylon, made from discarded fishing nets.
Through its partnership with Ambercycle, Hyosung is further advancing circularity by introducing polyester made from end-of-life textiles into supply chains, driving the creation of a circular textile ecosystem.
“Different brands have varying sustainability strategies, so it’s crucial to offer diverse solutions,” added Whitmarsh-Knight. “Some brands have long committed to using recycled materials and are now expanding into bio-based fibers. Others focus exclusively on 100% recycled materials and aren’t yet exploring bio-based options. However, we’ve seen growing interest in adopting new sustainable technologies as brands and retailers become more informed.”
To inspire product developers and designers, Hyosung will showcase a wide range of multifunctional fabrics and concept garments developed by its Fashion Design Center (FDC) at each event. (1)
