Justin Trudeau says Canada Will Resist US Steel Tariffs “Strongly And Firmly”

Trump’s decision to bring on the 25 percent tariffs on steel and aluminium imports stepped up a long-promised trade war despite warnings from Europe and China.

According to reports, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that Canada will resist any US tariffs on steel, announced by President Donald Trump, as this means to hit the US’s “closest ally” with the trade war, while adding on that their economies are integrated.

Such tariffs would be “entirely unjustified” and “Canadians will resist strongly and firmly if necessary”, he said during a conference on artificial intelligence(AI) in Paris.

He also mentioned that Canadian steel and aluminium are used in a number of key American industries, including defence, shipbuilding, manufacturing, and even automotive, while speaking to the reporters at the AI action summit.

“Our response will, of course, be firm and clear,” Trudeau told AFP, after Trump said that the US would impose tariffs on steel from Canada, which has been among the biggest steel importers to the United States.

Trudeau also said, “We are the US’s closest ally, and we will be working with the American administration over the coming weeks to highlight the negative impact on Americans and Canadians of these unacceptable tariffs.”

According to Justin, together, their Ally makes North America more competitive.
