Jindal Stainless, India’s top stainless steel producer, has partnered with AB Energia Solutions Pvt. Ltd., a prominent clean energy solutions provider, to implement a groundbreaking solar power project at its Jajpur, Odisha facility.
This initiative, now operational, is the largest captive solar plant within a single industrial site in Odisha, boasting an installed capacity of over 30 MWp. The project has two major components to it, one being the 7.324 MWp floating solar power plant and the other a 23.02 MWp rooftop solar system.
The floating solar plant set up in the Jaipur facility is ingeniously set up on an internal water reservoir, turning previously unused water bodies into productive energy-generating assets. Reports say that this helps in reducing water evaporation alongside contributing to clean power generation. The rooftop solar system has already been installed across ten industrial roofs at different heights, for optimal space utilization while maximizing solar energy output.
The combined solar systems are projected to produce around 44.3 million units of clean energy every year—enough to power 12,000 to 15,000 homes. This will allow Jindal Stainless to substantially decrease its reliance on grid electricity. Moreover, the project will reduce carbon emissions by 32,208 metric tonnes annually, equivalent to the positive impact of planting 1,288 trees each year.
Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director, Jindal Stainless, said in a statement, “At Jindal Stainless, we’re accelerating our progress towards achieving our Net Zero goals and investing in sustainable infrastructure through strategic partnerships. The commissioning of Odisha’s largest captive solar energy plant at our Jajpur facility is a major leap in this journey.
“We are redefining the future of stainless steel manufacturing in India by integrating innovative renewable energy solutions and staying accountable to global sustainability standards,” he added.
Mr Siddharth Bhatia, Managing Director, AB Energia Solutions Pvt. Ltd, stated, “Delivering this landmark project at Jindal Stainless’ Jajpur facility exemplifies AB Energia’s commitment to pioneering sustainable energy solutions. By transforming unused water bodies into productive assets and optimizing rooftop spaces, we are setting new benchmarks for green innovation in India’s industrial sector. By enabling a transition away from fossil fuels and toward renewable sources, projects like this not only drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also enhance operational efficiency, cost stability, and long-term competitiveness for industrial players.
The successful commissioning of this solar project would highlight AB Energia Solutions’ technical prowess and Jindal Stainless’ strong sustainability focus. A pioneer in solar EPC solutions, AB Energia provides clean energy systems – including floating solar, rooftop installations, ground-mounted arrays, and carport systems.
The company plays a vital role in India’s renewable energy transition, supporting the national target of 500 GW clean energy capacity by 2030. Through such projects, AB Energia enables industrial clients to enhance energy efficiency, cut operational costs, and accelerate their sustainability roadmaps.
“As demand for low-carbon ‘green steel’ rises globally, such initiatives position Indian industry at the forefront of sustainable manufacturing, ensuring resilience and relevance in a rapidly evolving market landscape,” added Siddharth Bhatia.
This solar energy installation is considered an important milestone in Jindal Stainless’ broader environmental strategy. As part of its long-term vision, the company aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The company has pledged INR 700 crore over the next five years toward decarbonization efforts, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable manufacturing and renewable energy integration.
