Iran and China have signed an agreement [1] to export engineering services for the development of a sponge iron production facility in Kazakhstan, marking a significant step in regional steel industry collaboration.
The project, led by Iran’s ASCOTEC Holding, will utilize Iran’s proprietary PERED technology to design and engineer a sponge iron plant with an annual production capacity of 800,000 tons. This initiative underscores Iran’s commitment to expanding its technological footprint in international steel markets. Iran’s PERED technology—an advanced DRI process—will be implemented in the Kazakh plant, which is designed to produce 800,000 tons of sponge iron annually. The latest agreement with Kazakhstan seals Iran’s reputation as a reliable supplier of cutting-edge steelmaking solutions.
China’s TCS company, a key partner in the deal, has highlighted its long-term cooperation with Iranian firms, expressing confidence in executing the project efficiently. This collaboration is expected to strengthen industrial ties between Iran, China, and Kazakhstan while boosting technological exchange within the steel sector.
Iranian officials view this agreement as part of a broader strategy to expand the country’s steel expertise beyond domestic borders. By exporting engineering services and technology, Iran aims to enhance its international presence and foster deeper industrial partnerships with key players in the global steel market.
