India’s L&T unit gets ’ major’ steel project expansion in MENA

The company is to set up the pellet and DRI plants

India’s Larsen & Toubro (L&T) said its minerals & metals (M&M) business vertical had received an order to set up a pellet plant and a direct reduction of iron (DRI) plant in the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region. The GCC order is a repeat order from a leading railway company in the GCC, which has ambitious plans for capacity expansion in multiple phases.

L&T announced in a statement to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on Monday that the new order is part of an expansion contract previously secured from a major regional steel producer.

The work scope included the design-building of pellet and DRI plants, inclusive of the engineering, supply, erection, and construction works.

The order is classified as a “major”, translating the value between INR50 billion to INR100 billion ($574-$ 1.15 billion).

“With this prestigious project, M&M further solidifies its reputation as a leader in freight handling facility projects. The repeat order from GCC’s largest railway company highlights M&M’s proven capabilities in delivering EPC projects matching international standards in quality, safety, and on-time completion,” said Mr D K Sen, Executive Committee Member and Advisor to the CMD, L&T.

The client’s name and country were not disclosed as per reports.
