For the pioneering future of sustainable development, ARS Steel has successfully set a milestone for India’s construction industry, showcasing its dedication to net-zero targets through sustainable building practices and innovative technology by delivering India’s first green TMT bar to Trimetro Group for the construction of Epic Group’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Epic Group is a global leader in sustainable fashion and is headquartered in Hong Kong. Reports show that they are investing INR 377 crore in green manufacturing in India.
The facility aims at setting a new standard for industrial sustainability for the country, with the green initiative centering on ultra-low emission TMT bars by ARS Steel in cooperation with Sentra.world, a technology-driven startup dedicated to decarbonizing industrial manufacturing.
This project underscores India’s pioneering role in establishing ‘green steel’ standards. As per national benchmarks, steel with an emission intensity below 1.6 tCO₂/tfs qualifies for a 5-star rating. Against a national average of ~2.5 tCO₂/tcs, ARS Steel has set a new industry standard with an emission intensity of just 0.59 tCO₂/tfs—making its TMT bars four times more sustainable than the national average and cementing its position as one of India’s lowest-emission steel producers.
According to reports, with ARS green steel, Epic Group is to reduce the carbon emissions of their building by approximately 20%, changing from the traditional blast furnaces to cleaner and electric methods of steel production. This initiative is set to contribute to the country’s sustainable landscape with reduced carbon footprints.
Ashwani Kumar Bhatia, Managing Director of ARS Steel, said, “This partnership with Epic Group and sentra.world is a significant step towards a greener future. Our steel not only strengthens buildings but also reduces environmental impact, setting new standards for net-zero construction.”
Ranjan Mahtani, Founder & Chairman of Epic Group, emphasized, “Sustainability is central to our operations at Epic. By collaborating with ARS Steel and leveraging the expertise of sentra.world, we’ve significantly reduced our carbon footprint without compromising on quality. This initiative sets new benchmarks for eco-friendly construction in India, not just for the fashion sector, but for global sustainability efforts.”
Sentra.world plays a vital role in this sustainable supply chain. They offer a real-time emissions monitoring system and AI-powered quality control to ensure carbon transparency across the entire production and delivery process. Their advanced technology provides detailed, and order-based tracking of grade chemistry and carbon emissions, enabling complete transparency and supporting the development of circular supply chains in construction.
Harsh Choudhry, Co-founder & CEO of sentra.world, added, “Our mission is to empower industries to measure, mitigate, and monetize their carbon emissions using technology. Facilitating this green steel supply chain has been a milestone for us, offering transparency and setting a new precedent for sustainable procurement in India.”
ARS 550D TMT Bars, supplied by ARS Steel, are known for their superior strength, high ductility, and low sulfur and phosphorus content. These bars are manufactured using over 98% recycled steel, renewable energy, and zero fossil fuels; they redefine sustainable building materials.
This collaboration between Epic Group, ARS Steel, and Sentra.world advances the construction of a building and also paves the way for a new era of sustainable manufacturing in India. By aligning with international sustainability standards, the partnership aims to set a precedent for future infrastructure projects, showcasing India’s commitment to eco-friendly industrial growth. The project is poised to inspire a new era of environmentally conscious manufacturing, positioning the country as a leader in sustainable development.
