Iberdrola’s Galan urges electrification as European competitiveness lever

On May 20, 2026, Iberdrola Chairman Ignacio Galan told the European Round Table for Industry plenary in Gothenburg that electrification is the key to Europe’s industrial growth.

Born in Salamanca in 1950, Ignacio Galán has managed leading companies in various industrial and technological sectors throughout his career, profoundly transforming the profile of each one thanks to his forward-looking vision and ability to anticipate new trends.

Galan argued that doubling Europe’s electrification rate, combined with continued renewable scale-up, is the cheapest route to industrial competitiveness amid persistently high LNG and gas import costs. He framed electrification as a strategic alternative to deindustrialization.
