Australian green hydrogen producer Hysata announced on Friday that it has entered into agreements with South Korean steelmaker POSCO and its POSCO Eco & Challenge unit. The partnerships aim to advance electrolyser technology for green hydrogen production, says Reuters.
These collaborations highlight the growing synergy between the global steel industry and the green hydrogen sector, as steelmakers increasingly adopt hydrogen as a clean energy source to cut carbon emissions.
Under the joint development agreements, the firms will combine their technical knowledge to develop materials and systems for electrolysers and conduct activities to speed up the commercialisation of Hysata’s technology, they said to Reuters.
“This is an important partnership that leverages Hysata’s groundbreaking electrolysis cell technology and POSCO Group’s extensive expertise in materials, system development, engineering and construction of innovative technologies.” Hysata CEO, Paul Barrett said in an official statement.
POSCO Holdings New Experience of Technology Hub, Dr. Juwoung Yoon, the head of Clean Hydrogen Research Center also added, “To strengthen future competitiveness and sustainable growth, it is very essential to enhance the successful transition to a low-carbon production system. POSCO Group is actively pursuing the innovation and its synergies with breakthrough technologies.
The firms stated that the agreements come after both companies participated in Hysata’s Series B funding round.
