China’s largest steel-producing province released a modernization plan committing to certify more than 20 categories of green steel by year-end, advance 36 priority projects, and achieve breakthroughs in 25 key technologies.
According to the provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the plan also requires the development of more than 30 new product types and 10 industry models. Hebei accounts for approximately one-fifth of Chinese crude steel output.
Why it matters for green steel: Hebei’s certification framework could shape the de facto specification benchmark for a fifth of Chinese supply ahead of CBAM exposure scrutiny on exports to the EU.
