Gabriela Hearst, the luxury fashion house, has introduced its inaugural sustainable sneaker, The Ohio, reflecting the brand’s dedication to superior craftsmanship and reduced environmental impact. Unveiled at the Spring/Summer 2025 runway show, this sneaker merges eco-conscious innovation with timeless style.
Meticulously handcrafted in Italy, The Ohio boasts a rubber sole incorporating 30% recycled materials and stitching crafted from 30% Global Recycled Standard-certified polyester. The sole is bonded with water-based glue, a low-chemical alternative to conventional solvent-based adhesives, free from polyurethane.
The sneaker’s upper, laces, and lining are fashioned from 100% leather, responsibly sourced from a Leather Working Group-certified tannery. Distinctive leather laces lend texture to the slip-on design, enhanced by an internal elastic ribbon made from recycled polyester and natural rubber.
Available in White, White with multicoloured stitching, Sand, and Light Blue Denim, The Ohio also offers additional shades: Dark Chocolate, Cobalt, Olive, Antelope Orange, and Golden Birch Nabuk leather. Prices range from £835 to £915.
Launched on 29 March 2025, The Ohio is stocked at Gabriela Hearst boutiques in London, New York, Beverly Hills, and Tokyo, as well as online at gabrielahearst.com.
This release underscores Gabriela Hearst’s commitment to sustainable luxury, blending ethical material choices with cutting-edge design. The Ohio establishes a new standard for environmentally responsible footwear while upholding the brand’s renowned artisanal quality.
In 2024, Gabriela Hearst’s sustainability efforts earned her recognition at the TIME Earth Awards for her work in climate justice and activism. She also showcased her creative prowess by designing costumes for the San Francisco Ballet’s world premiere of Carmen in April 2024. Featured in Dos Mujeres—the company’s first all-Latina choreographed double bill—the costumes were crafted entirely from merino wool, widely regarded as the world’s most sustainable fabric.
