Amsterdam-based Fashion for Good has launched World of Waste, a free online tool designed to pinpoint global textile waste hotspots. Developed with support from Reverse Resources, Global Fashion Agenda, Circle Economy, and Accelerating Circularity, the tool enables innovators and recyclers to locate and utilise textile waste resources worldwide, providing comprehensive regional data on waste volume, composition, and type.
Currently, data on textile waste is fragmented across various organisations and platforms, limiting the industry’s ability to address and harness waste effectively. World of Waste aims to overcome this barrier by centralising knowledge and standardising data—helping the industry turn textile waste into a valuable resource.
The World of Waste tool offers a comprehensive view of textile waste, combining diverse expertise and extensive data to present insights on waste quantities, types, compositions, and more, alongside links to original studies. By detailing waste attributes, data collection methods, involved organisations, and upcoming regional studies, the tool empowers both textile waste users and stakeholders seeking to expand industry knowledge.
“We’re excited to launch worldofwaste.co, a tool providing crucial data on global textile waste hotspots,” said Katrin Ley, managing director of Fashion for Good. “This collaborative effort brings together key industry partners to empower recyclers and innovators with insights into waste volumes and compositions, helping turn waste into valuable resources and accelerating the shift towards a more circular and sustainable fashion industry.”
