The European Fashion Alliance has released its latest report, The Status of European Fashion Report 2024 [1], providing a comprehensive exploration of the current landscape of the European fashion industry. The report emphasized the urgent need for sustainability, innovation, and collaboration across the sector, highlighting the critical role of creativity in driving positive environmental and social change.
The report is based on a survey conducted among 211 industry representatives and supplemented by qualitative interviews with leading opinion leaders. It outlines the transformative changes occurring in the European fashion industry, driven by the urgency for sustainability, technological advancements, and educational needs.
The report highlighted that the fashion industry faces increasing regulatory and societal pressure to address its environmental impacts including issues around overproduction and quality. The changing public perception driven by ethics and sustainability & suggestions for sustainable business models to address public concerns about greenwashing and overproduction were also covered in the report.
The European Fashion Alliance calls for greater transparency in production practices and collaboration across the global fashion ecosystem to embed circularity, ethics, and sustainability into business strategies. The goal is to ensure that growth aligns with the planet’s finite limits while creating a more equitable future.
