Egypt: New Discussions Boosting Iron & Steel Sector with Green Investments

Kamel Al-Wazir, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, along with Hassan El-Khatib, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, recently held a meeting with Ayman El-Ashry, President of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and Chairperson of Ashry Steel Group, to explore strategies for advancing the country’s iron and steel industry.

The meeting focused on exploring investment opportunities in the iron and steel sector, with particular attention given to enhancing production capacities and leveraging technological advancements to attract new investments in the industry. The discussions also emphasized efforts to move into a green economy, particularly on integrating renewable energy sources into energy-intensive sectors such as iron and steel. The move aims to reduce carbon emissions and align with both international and EU environmental standards.

Al-Wazir, a senior industry representative, emphasized the sector’s contribution to boosting local manufacturing, reducing imports, increasing added value, and expanding exports. The Ministry of Industry has identified the iron and steel industry as a top priority to strengthen domestic production and economic resilience.

In parallel, Ayman El-Ashry praised the government’s sustained efforts to empower the private sector, particularly in industrial development. He noted that such initiatives are vital for enhancing local economic growth and fostering a competitive industrial landscape.
