TextileGenesis, a Lectra Group company, and the Aid by Trade Foundation (AbTF) have announced the extension of their successful partnership to advance traceability for Cotton made in Africa (CmiA) verified fibre. This collaboration underscores their shared commitment to supply chain transparency and sustainable cotton production.
CmiA, a globally recognised standard for sustainable cotton, supports African smallholder farmers while safeguarding the environment. By leveraging TextileGenesis’ pioneering traceability platform, this partnership offers brands unmatched visibility of CmiA fibre origins and processing, ensuring end-to-end traceability.
Using advanced Fibrecoins technology, TextileGenesis tracks cotton from bale to finished product, building on its previous success with AbTF on The Good Cashmere Standard earlier in 2024. This extended collaboration reinforces their commitment to scalable, impactful, and sustainable practices within the textile industry.
“At Cotton made in Africa, we highly value transparency and strive to create meaningful change for both nature and farming communities. By making CmiA cotton traceable through TextileGenesis, we empower brands already utilising TextileGenesis to not only source ethically but also benefit from established tracking tools in their business practices. This collaboration promotes long-term sustainability for farmers, nature, and transparency while offering practical options for implementing traceability requirements within the industry,” said Christian Barthel, Head of Business Development at the Aid by Trade Foundation.
This partnership allows brands to authenticate the origins of CmiA cotton confidently, supporting accurate sustainability claims and improving annual reporting. TextileGenesis also provides access to the industry’s largest supplier network, offering comprehensive supply chain visibility—from fibre producers to third-party auditors.
Retailers and brands gain flexibility through dual tracking systems: TextileGenesis for seamless management of multiple sustainability standards or CmiA’s own SCOT system to monitor cotton throughout the supply chain. Brands already using TextileGenesis benefit from an integrated platform to streamline traceability, enhance efficiency, and foster supply chain synergies.
Notably, 90% of material sustainability standards, including CmiA, have adopted TextileGenesis as their traceability backbone. This positions TextileGenesis as the industry standard for verifying authenticity and compliance across diverse certifications.
“We are excited to expand our collaboration with the Aid by Trade Foundation and bring our cutting-edge technology to Cotton made in Africa. This partnership empowers brands to ensure the integrity and sustainability of their supply chains while supporting the livelihoods of smallholder farmers in Africa,” said Amit Gautam, Founder and CEO of TextileGenesis.
This partnership reaffirms TextileGenesis and AbTF’s dedication to transforming the textile industry through innovation, transparency, and sustainability.
