Fashion giant Trendy Group, which includes Italian brand Miss Sixty, have partnered with the Central Saint Martins (CSM), University of the Arts London (UAL) “to pave the future for circular denim.” The partnership revolves around the new Future Denim Lab, a five-year program dedicated to promoting circular denim and sustainable fashion. It will work with denim company Miss Sixty to integrate cutting-edge research and innovation with hands-on student involvement.
A committed group of academics from CSM, including a PhD studentship with full funding, will work together at Future Denim Lab to promote sustainable innovation in denim recovery, recycling, and reuse. The group will look into novel ways to recycle both synthetic and organic materials using cutting-edge technologies like biotechnology. Future Denim Lab projects will bring together undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of courses, giving them experience and multidisciplinary insights in sustainable design and research.
Since 2018, Trendy Group has been a vital partner in helping Central Saint Martins, and in 2019, the institution named its central walkway and meeting spot ‘The Trendy Group Street’ in honor of a “generous donation”. The partnership aims to set a new standard in fashion education and sustainability, preparing the next generation of designers to develop a circular, sustainably responsible industry.
