Bilfinger, a leading industrial services provider, has partnered with Cerulean Winds [1] to spearhead the North Sea’s renewable energy transition. Bilfinger will serve as the operations and maintenance (O&M) partner, bringing decades of experience in development planning and a deep understanding of the offshore energy sector.
The collaboration focuses on the development of three floating offshore wind farms: Aspen, Beech, and Cedar, collectively generating over 3 gigawatts (GW) of renewable green energy. The 1GW Aspen site will be developed first, contributing to the UK government’s target of achieving 50GW of offshore wind capacity by 2030.
Dan Jackson, Founding Director of Cerulean Winds, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “This is the story of the North Sea transition in a nutshell – a leading oil and gas service provider redeploying its skilled workforce and expertise to scale up floating wind.”
Sandy Bonner, President Engineering & Maintenance UK at Bilfinger, emphasized the company’s commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions, “By integrating innovative technologies and collaborating closely with the consortium, we aim to ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable operation of the Aspen, Beech, and Cedar sites.”
This partnership underscores the shared ambition of both companies to advance the floating offshore wind industry in Scotland and deliver clean power to the UK. Bilfinger’s early involvement in the design phase will allow for the optimization of maintenance strategies and support the project’s ambitious goals of industrial decarbonization and enabling the electrification of oil and gas facilities.
