BGMEA chief urges for fair pricing to ensure sustainable growth in the garment industry.

Anwar Hossain, the head of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), has emphasized the need for fair pricing in promoting sustainability in the garment industry. He underlined that pricing decisions have a direct impact on worker welfare, especially given rising production costs caused by a variety of domestic and foreign issues.

During a meeting with a team from the Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) at the BGMEA offices on Monday, Hossain emphasized the importance of continued efforts to create safer, fairer, and more sustainable workplaces in the RMG sector.

During the meeting, they discussed the ongoing ILO-led initiatives, particularly the Better Work Bangladesh programme, which aims to improve working conditions and ensure occupational safety for RMG workers.

Director of International Advocacy Thulsi Narayanasamy, Regional Director for South Asia Manodeep Guha, and WRC representative in Bangladesh Shaikat Mollik were among the members of the WRC delegation.

Hossain gave a summary of Bangladesh’s garment industry’s current state at the meeting, covering both its prospects and problems. He also emphasized the noteworthy advancements the sector has made recently in the areas of environmental sustainability, labor standards, and workplace safety.
