A delegation from the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) and the Fair Labour Association (FLA) met with representatives of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) to discuss workers’ rights in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
The BGMEA stated that the visit aimed to strengthen US-Bangladesh partnerships within the RMG industry. The meeting, led by BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain, included BGMEA Support Committee members Miran Ali, Asif Ashraf, Rezwan Selim, ANM Saifuddin, Shehabudduza Chowdhury, and Shams Mahmud.
Both parties emphasised the importance of fostering a sustainable and ethical RMG industry in Bangladesh while enhancing trade ties with the United States. Discussions focused on workers’ rights, workplace safety, and the need for labour law reforms.

They acknowledged the industry’s notable advancements in sustainability and explored initiatives to enhance worker training and welfare.
The BGMEA urged the AAFA, which represents over 1,000 leading brands and retailers, to champion responsible sourcing practices that benefit both buyers and suppliers. Additionally, the BGMEA sought AAFA’s support in advancing Bangladesh’s trade interests in the US to ensure mutual growth and shared benefits.
