Grid data released on May 19, 2026 showed India curtailed 300 GWh of renewable energy in the first quarter of 2026 because of transmission constraints.
The curtailment comes as India accelerates its renewables auctions but lags in evacuation infrastructure for solar-rich states such as Rajasthan and Gujarat. India added renewable capacity at the fastest growth among major markets in 2025, at nearly 60% year-on-year.
Why it matters for Green Renewable Energy: Persistent curtailment shows India’s renewable-energy bottleneck is increasingly transmission, not generation cost — with direct implications for PPA pricing, storage co-location and developer returns.
