Huta Częstochowa moves to Polish state-owned joint ownership

Poland’s Military Property Agency (AMW) and state-owned coal group Węglokoks completed joint ownership of Huta Częstochowa steelworks, with the transaction finalizing 18 May 2026.

This step aims to enhance state oversight of the steelworks and ensure the long-term security of production capacity for critical steel products essential to the defense sector. The proposed ownership structure underscores Poland’s growing emphasis on safeguarding strategically important industrial assets tied to national security and military capabilities.

Why it matters for green steel: State ownership creates direct policy levers for accelerating decarbonization investments at Częstochowa, including potential EAF conversion.
