Canadian producer Algoma Steel released its Q1 FY2026 results and forward update on 13 May 2026, confirming continued progress on transitioning to electric-arc-furnace steelmaking at Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
According to Algoma’s earlier Q1 release, the EAF transition will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 70 percent versus its legacy integrated steelmaking — equivalent to removing nearly one million cars annually.
Why it matters for green steel: Algoma’s transition is one of North America’s largest single-site industrial decarbonization projects, supplying defense, automotive, shipbuilding, energy, and infrastructure markets.
