UAE-based EMSTEEL and industrial gas company Gulf Cryo signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding to develop an integrated CCUS value chain across EMSTEEL operations.
The signing took place at Make it in the Emirates 2026 in the presence of EMSTEEL Group CEO Saeed Al Remeithi and Gulf Cryo CEO Ranjith Nair. The partnership covers capture at source, downstream utilization, conversion technologies, and storage.
The Al Reyadah facility in the UAE is recognized as the world’s first operational, commercial-scale steel CCUS plant, which captured just 26.6 percent of its emissions in 2023 per IEEFA tracking.
Why it matters for green steel: The Gulf is positioning as a Middle East CCS hub for hard-to-abate sectors, leveraging existing oil-and-gas storage geology to anchor blue-hydrogen and CCS-based DRI routes.
