Rome has solidified its status as a global leader in sustainable fashion with the inauguration of the Phygital Sustainability Expo®, held at the historic Trajan’s Market. Organized by the Sustainable Fashion Innovation Society, this premier event showcases Italy’s commitment to eco-conscious fashion, drawing over 2,000 sustainable brands and key stakeholders from across Europe.
The expo featured the innovative Narrated Fashion Show®, where each garment’s CO₂ emissions were disclosed during the presentation, highlighting transparency in fashion production. Notable innovations included RadiciGroup’s BioFeel fabric, derived from beans grown on semi-arid land in India, and Lebiu Design Ecoolska’s cork leather, a durable alternative to animal hide made from cork waste.
Augmented reality experiences, such as those by Hevolus Innovation, educated attendees on the environmental impact of overconsumption, emphasizing the importance of conscious shopping. The event also hosted lectures and workshops, fostering discussions on sustainable practices and innovations in the fashion industry.
Under the leadership of President Valeria Mangani, the Sustainable Fashion Innovation Society continues to drive Italy’s ecological transition in fashion, promoting circular economy principles and sustainable production processes. The Phygital Sustainability Expo® stands as a testament to Rome’s dedication to shaping a more sustainable future in fashion.
