MCM reimagines luxury with Mirum : A sustainable, vegan, leather alternative

MCM, a high-end German fashion brand, has launched a new capsule collection named Mirum. This collection includes an innovative, environmental friendly and cruelty-free alternative to traditional leather.

“Traditional leather alternatives are heavily reliant on fossil-fuel derived synthetics, which do not biodegrade and contribute to the global plastic issue. That’s why we are proud to partner with NFW to introduce MIRUM® alternative leather into the design and manufacture of our products. As a naturally circular, scalable, 100% plastic and water-free material, MIRUM® an incredibly exciting resource for us.”said MCM in its statement.

Mirum, a cutting-edge material created by Natural Fiber Welding, is made up of virgin natural materials and repurposed agricultural waste products such as natural rubber, plant oils and waxes, natural pigments, and minerals. Notably, this innovative material is entirely free of fossil fuels and water, encouraging a more sustainable fashion sector. Some versions of Mirum even feature ingredients that enhance biodiversity and regenerative soil systems. This way MCM prioritize local communities while meeting multiple sustainable development goals at the same time.

Mirum is the world’s first 100% recyclable and circular leather alternative. Making the most of this material, the eco-friendly luxury capsule collection reimagines MCM’s famous Himmel Shopper in two sizes in its classic black coloring. MCM plans to integrate Mirum in more upcoming releases now that it has created designs with it.
